European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders including Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been central to campaigns to enact laws governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported the French president in condemning the decision.
The restrictions were enacted this week against an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), along with four anti-disinformation campaigners, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
